Biography

Dr. B. Andrew Castro joined Cornerstone Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in 2005, after being in solo practice. He has extensive experience treating disorders of all areas of the spine, concentrating his practice on spinal disorders in adults and children. Dr. Castro is well-versed in and utilizes the latest surgical techniques such as minimally invasive surgery, disc replacement, and other cutting edge techniques. He is committed to his patients’ care, and he values continued education. Dr. Castro found that his personal efforts at impeccable patient care, technical excellence, and lifelong education, were also fundamental to Cornerstone’s physicians’ solid reputation in the community.

Prior to working at Cornerstone Orthopaedics, Dr. Castro earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees in Bioengineering from Clemson University in Clemson, SC. He pursued his education further and received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Following medical school, he completed residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY and went on to complete fellowship training in Complex Spinal Deformities at the University of Colorado with Dr. Michael O’Brien and Dr. Thomas Lowe. Dr. Castro is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

Dr. Castro has presented research at various national orthopaedic meetings, and has numerous publications including journal articles and book chapters to his credit. Dr. Castro received the John H. Moe Award, an award given to the best clinical poster or e-poster at the Scoliosis Research Society meeting. He remains actively involved in Spinal Biomechanics research.

When he is not meeting with patients or researching about the spine, Dr. Castro volunteers his time with the Cornerstone Foundation medical mission’s team. Dr. Castro, his wife, and daughters also enjoy the Colorado outdoors, skiing, and golfing. With a passion for staying active, Dr. Castro can also be found swimming, running, and biking in triathlons. He recently completed his first full Iron Man.
