Biography
Dr. Castro obtained B.S. and M.S. degrees in bioengineering from Clemson University. He pursued further education and received his doctor of medicine from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Dr. Castro completed residency training in orthopaedic surgery at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. After completing his residency, Dr. Castro went on to complete fellowship training in complex spinal deformities at the University of Colorado with Dr.s Michael O’Brien, and Thomas Lowe. He is board certified in orthopaedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Dr. Castro has presented research at many national orthopaedic meetings, and has numerous publications including journal articles and book chapters to his credit. He remains actively involved in spinal biomechanics research. Dr. Castro’s practice concentrates on spinal disorders in adults and children.
Dr. Castro has extensive clinical experience and enjoys treating disorders of all areas of the spine. “ I enjoy treating complex spinal disorders and problems, but I realize that the patient always comes first. I strive to seek out the best individualized treatment for each patient and I will often exhaust non-operative options before considering surgery.” Dr. Castro is committed to his patients care, and he values continued education. He is well versed in and utilizes the latest in surgical techniques such as minimally invasive surgery, disc replacement, and other cutting edge techniques.
Dr. Castro joined Cornerstone Orthopaedics in August 2005 after being in solo practice for the last two years. His personal efforts at impeccable patient care, technical excellence, and lifelong education, are fundamental to this group and all of its members as well. Cornerstone Orthopaedics enjoys a solid reputation in our community.
Andy and his wife Sharon have two beautiful daughters. They enjoy skiing, golf and the Colorado outdoors.
