Biography
Dr. Thomas Mann is a fellowship trained Sports Medicine specialist who joined Cornerstone Orthopedics in 2000. He is a Fellow with The American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), the leading orthopedic organization for Sports Medicine in the U.S. His area of specialization includes arthroscopic surgery, knee and shoulder reconstruction, including ACL and rotator cuff repair, as well as managing athletes through injuries and their return to training and competition. Other areas of interest include fracture care and pediatric injuries.
Dr. Mann is a graduate of Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, where he graduated with Honors in 1992. He was also elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and selected to the Honor Society. He completed his orthopedic training at Penn State University and subsequently completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Ohio State University, which included extensive training in arthroscopic surgery, research and both training room and team coverage experience.
While primarily involved with football at Ohio State, Dr. Mann also worked with its baseball, soccer, basketball, ice hockey, gymnastics, lacrosse, crew and swim varsity teams. Additional team coverage experience was gained at Penn State University, Sierra College in California, as well as high schools in Pennsylvania, Ohio, California, and Colorado. In addition to football, hockey and soccer are two sports of particular interest to Dr. Mann. His experience includes working with the Columbus Chill Minor League Hockey team and the Hershey Bears of the AHL. Dr. Mann has also worked with U.S. Soccer, and was the team doctor for the U-17 Team on a European tour.
Dr. Mann’s community service includes acting as camp doctor for Young Life on a regular basis, and serving on the committee of Young Life Central Denver. He has covered the Ralston Valley High School football team for the last five years, and has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Denver Hands for Hope Day.
Dr. Mann says that he has been significantly influenced by his father who was also a physician and medical missionary in India for 10 years, where Dr. Mann spent part of his childhood. His own medical missions’ service has included practicing pediatric orthopedics in Honduras.
Dr. Mann’s treatment philosophy is “to educate the patient, help them understand their problem, and equip them to manage their injury.” Dr. Mann states, “Sometimes this requires surgery and/or the aid of a skilled physical therapist.”
Dr. Mann and his wife enjoy many outdoor pursuits. They also enjoy frequent trips to Pennsylvania and Ontario, Canada where their respective families live.
